Three Sisters Plantation

Three Sisters Plantation By Eden Villas

The Place : Ahangama, Sri Lanka

The Story

Nestled just inland from the lively surf town of Ahangama, Three Sisters Plantation is a hidden Sri Lankan estate retreat, blending old-world grandeur with tropical serenity. Perched on a scenic hilltop, the vast property features working tea, coconut, cinnamon, and pepper plantations, rolling gardens, a private lake, and dramatic landscaping teeming with wildlife. Less than a 15-minute tuk-tuk ride from Ahangama’s main street and trendy café scene, the estate feels worlds apart, serene, storied, and effortlessly beautiful.

If you’re seeking the best boutique stay near Ahangama with sweeping views, art-filled semicolonial interiors, and tranquil open-air pavilions, Three Sisters Plantation delivers a dream setting for families, couples, or small groups.

Inside the Stay

The main villa clusters three suites: spacious, high-ceilinged, and filled with natural light. British colonial architecture shines in every detail, with timber columns, open eaves, and large bay windows framing views over the estate and lake. One suite is slightly apart, with its own plunge pool and terrace overlooking the private lake an ideal nook for sunrise or romantic evenings.

Living spaces are semi-open, with a breezy central lounge and a grand wooden dining table under a roof but open to gardens on all sides. Here, families gather for slow breakfasts, sunset drinks, and candlelit dinners as peacocks roam past and evening breezes roll in. A highlight: stepping stones over a lotus koi pond lead you to bedrooms, a playful touch.

Bathrooms are massive in scale with elegant built-in or freestanding tubs, some with outdoor showers under bamboo. Each suite offers generous seating, book- and art-filled nooks, and secluded terraces for reading, birdwatching, or simply daydreaming.

Outdoors, a broad infinity pool faces lush plantations, while a second private pool serves the separate suite. The gardens unfold in lush, cinematic style, gazebos catch the golden sunset, stone pathways meander through dramatic landscaping, fireflies flicker at night, and peacocks parade at dawn and dusk. The estate’s private lake is home to visiting birds and adds an enchanting layer to the scenery.

What we loved

From the moment we walked in, it felt like stepping straight into a scene from The White Lotus and if there were ever filmed a season in a Sri Lankan season, it could be shot right here. The villa had that same cinematic mix, with every view and corner feeling effortlessly designed for slow mornings and long afternoons.

One of the highlights was having a private yoga session by the pool. With the sun just starting to soften, the only sounds were the water moving and the breeze in the trees. It was calm and meditative, the kind of setting that pulls you completely into the moment. Afterwards, floating in the pool, surrounded by all that greenery, felt both calming and a little humbling.

We also loved the koi pond  inspired by a Japanese zen garden where bright fish glide through still water under the shade of the trees. It’s the kind of spot you keep coming back to, whether to feed the fish, take photos, or just stand there watching them move. And everywhere you turn, there’s that same mix of nature, design, and little details that make the villa feel alive and full of character.
