Samode Haveli
Samode Haveli
The Place : Jaipur, Rajasthan, India
Hidden in the winding lanes of old Jaipur, Samode Haveli is a regal, 225-year-old residence that brings the city’s royal past to life. Once the exclusive manor of a noble Rajasthani family, the haveli is now a boutique heritage hotel, its hand-painted halls, lush courtyards, and calm, cloistered quarters offering a tranquil escape from Jaipur’s bustle. Step through ornate archways into a world of color and charm, where every corridor leads to a fresh discovery: intricate murals, antique trunks, secret alcoves, and blooming bougainvillea.
Inside the Stay
The original architecture of thick yellow walls, ornate columns, archways, and painted ceilings has been lovingly restored, keeping its intimate, lived-in character. Wander the winding corridors and you’ll find hidden gardens, courtyards shaded by blossoming trees, terraces with panoramic city views, and tranquil nooks perfect for reading or retreat.
The haveli features around 50 individually designed rooms and suites, deluxe rooms and suites, the grand Haveli Suite, and the opulent Sheesh Mahal, inspired by Jaipur’s legendary Halls of Mirrors. No two rooms are alike; each is furnished with antique beds, period details, family heirlooms, and elegant touches. Bathrooms are spacious, with standalone bathtubs and updated luxury amenities.
The grand lounge, alive with frescos and classic furniture, is a dreamy spot to relax after a day of sightseeing. Wide verandahs and hidden terraces offer space to sip chai or enjoy a sundowner with views over old Jaipur, while the central courtyard is always alive with birds and fragrance. The Moorish-style swimming pool is set among gardens, flanked by daybeds and canopied lounges for a blissful break from the city heat.
Dining at Samode Haveli is a celebration of Rajasthan’s flavors. The signature restaurant serves an elaborate breakfast buffet, with lunch and dinner offering both à la carte and buffet options, seamlessly blending regional classics like laal maans and dal baati with familiar international staples. Dine poolside, in the lavish dining hall, or privately in a leafy corner or rooftop terrace. At sunset, there’s no better place than the haveli’s terrace with a drink in hand as kites fill the sky.
The staff can arrange city walks, guided heritage tours, or craft shopping trips, as well as wellness sessions, yoga, cooking classes, and evening performances. Spa treatments and massages are available for restful afternoons, and the attentive service shines for special celebrations or weddings.
What we loved
The entrance is genuinely special. As you step in, there’s this narrow passage and then suddenly it opens up into a courtyard, that moment really stays with you. The doorway itself is striking, and there’s a guard who greets you at the entrance, adding to the sense of arrival.
The courtyard is definitely one of the most iconic parts of the property. From there, you’re guided to the check-in area and that room is a highlight on its own. Every inch of it is painted, and right in the middle is this mural of Samode Palace that looks like a drone shot. But of course, it’s not, someone must’ve climbed a nearby mountain back in the day to sketch that view. That kind of imagination, and the effort behind it, is impressive.
What makes it even more engaging is how many birds are hidden in the artwork, apparently over a hundred different species. You keep discovering new ones as you sit there, almost like the walls are entertaining you. It’s such a smart, subtle detail and honestly felt like the 18th-century version of Netflix, when you didn’t have screens, the walls were the content.
The bar area is another favourite, it has these symmetrical arches on both sides and looks beautiful from every angle. Very aesthetically designed, very Instagrammable, but in a way that feels authentic and not forced. That’s a recurring theme across the property. So many corners are effortlessly photogenic.
We also toured the Sheesh Mahal, which is one of the most unique rooms. It’s full of intricate glasswork, and what’s really clever is the way it’s lit from the floor, not the ceiling. That’s been added more recently to protect the original ceiling design, but it still echoes the way lamps might have been placed back in the day. The reflection from below creates a soft, glowing effect. There are two such rooms, and both are beautifully detailed.
The rest of the property almost unfolds like a maze, there are multiple courtyards, open lawns, and long walkways that take you to different sections. The rooms themselves are well thought out. We had arches inside our room that separated the sleeping space from a little lounge area, and the bathrooms were huge.
